Homemade yogurt

How to make yogurt at home – it is easy with this recipe using just two ingredients. And you can create it in many different flavors. Homemade yogurt tastes creamy, mild and incredibly delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 l milk
  • 50 g natural yogurt

Instructions

  • Pour milk into a saucepan with a thick base and heat it (do not boil) to 194 °F - 203 °F while stirring.
  • Remove the milk from the heat and allow it to cool to 104 °F - 113 °F.
  • Stir natural yogurt thoroughly into the milk.
  • Pour the milk mixture into screw jars, seal and leave to mature in a warm place (e.g. on a warm heating element or in the oven at around 104 °F) for 8 - 12 hours until it sets.
  • Then place the finished yoghurt in the fridge for a few hours and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use pure natural yogurt without sugar or other additives to make yogurt at home.
  • For a creamy yogurt with a thick consistency, you need full-fat milk and natural yogurt. This also applies to plant-based alternatives for vegan yogurt.
  • Make sure you leave the yogurt to mature in a warm place (at around 104 °F). This can be a warm heating element or a warm oven.
  • Homemade yogurt is thick. If you want it creamy, stir it carefully.
  • You can use your homemade natural yogurt as a starter culture for making a new portion of yogurt.
  • Alternatively, you can make yogurt at home from milk and a yogurt ferment. In this case, follow the provider's instructions for the quantities.

  • You can refine the homemade natural yogurt with fruits, nuts, seeds, chocolate, honey or spices before serving.
